dementia conferenceThe Alzheimer’s Society has recently reported that up to half of all dementia patients leave hospital “in a worse state than when they arrived.” With 80% of nurses saying that they are in need of more specialist advice on the needs of dementia patients, and with the increasing numbers of people living with dementia, the scale of the challenge of implementing the National Dementia Strategy becomes clear.

It is timely that AFTA Thought are continuing our work in this field as part of the St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust’s one day conference “Making Sense”, this November. Amongst the speakers are Professor Sube Banerjee (National Dementia Strategy Joint Lead) and Maria McManus (Associate Director of the Dementia Service Development Centre in Northern Ireland), to complete a truly national picture of the journey ahead.
