Safeguarding Vulnerable Tenants

Safeguarding Vulnerable Tenants

AFTA Thought's Managing Director, Mary Austin, writes about the responsibilities of workers in the housing sector to ensure the safety of vulnerable adults, in 24 Housing Magazine.

The deaths of David Askew and Steven Hoskin, and the Shannon Matthews kidnapping case powerfully reinforce the increased responsibility of workers in the housing sector. As an increasing number of vulnerable people leave residential care and become social housing residents a cultural shift is required in the approach to adult safeguarding. In 24 Housing Magazine, Mary uses case studies to demonstrate where staff might find themselves confronted with safeguarding issues, and outlines the stategies that housing organisations can put in place to ensure that their tenants are safe tenants.
