Dementia Care - BUPA
800,000 people in the UK live with dementia. A third of them live in care homes. This month AFTA Thought are working alongside BUPA at a series of events designed to develop the dementia care practice in their care homes.
BUPA are at the forefront of dementia care in the UK and they have worked collaboratively with the Alzheimer's Society to train up Dementia Champions within their organisation. Throughout September managers from care homes across 5 regions will be attending the events. Dr Graham Stokes is the director of dementia care for BUPA and he has been instrumental in the development of person-centred approaches to care. At each of the events he will be sharing his message that we must see the person first and the dementia second. AFTA Thought will be using our actors to bring the event to life and to demonstrate some of the ways in which dementia impacts on our lives.
