Barnet Disability Hate Crime Conference

The London Borough of Barnet invited AFTA Thought to deliver our work exploring Hate Crime with a particular focus on when targeting is because of a person's real or perceived disability or mental health issue.

A range of health and social care staff attended sessions designed to raise awareness that Hate Crimes are being perpetrated but not reported or recorded. The reasons why victims feel unable to speak out were powerfully explored. The reasons that professionals fail to recognise Disablist Hate Crime for what it is was exposed.
